Personal Assistant Program

The Home Services Program (HSP) offers individuals with disabilities, who are at risk of unnecessary institutionalization, the alternative of in-home assistance where home care doesn’t exceed the cost of a health care facility. HSP does provide an option which addresses needs and preferences which allow the individual to enhance his/her abilities and leads to a more satisfying life.  NICIL conducts initial interviews of people interested in the position.  To qualify for the Personal Assistant (PA) Registry list, be at least 18 years old, have a working phone number, and reliable transportation. Once these steps are completed, there is an orientation class with mandatory attendance in order to be to placed on our referral list.  Download the application below.

Per Department of Human Services Title 89, Chapter IV, Section.686.25 Background checks conducted by Illinois Centers for Independent Living will cease to be utilized as of October 25, 2019.  Background checks may be conducted by the individual consumer pending hiring Personal Assistance.  Personal Assistance will have a background check conducted by the Department of Human Services before being offered a position.
