NICIL = Northwestern Illinois Center for Independent Living over 30 years of service!

There are 54 million Americans, about 1 in 5 living with a disability. That’s over 29% of families in the United States that have one or more members with a disability. NICIL is a non-profit, non-residential Center for Independent Living (CIL) that emulates the Independent Living Philosophy with a mission that promotes an accessible society that allows and expects full participation by people with disabilities.  NICIL began services in 1985 as a passionate partner for people with disabilities desiring to live a useful and rewarding life.

We support and encourage people with disabilities to realize there are no limits to what they can do. We accomplish this by assisting them to live independently, make changes in their own lives, seek peer support, obtain resources and work together to remove barriers that impact their dreams of independence.  NICIL advocates the implementation of current laws, promotion of needed legislation and improvement of existing systems for persons with disabilities while working to diminish negative attitudes that impede equal access.

NICIL has a deep understanding of the needs and solutions to advance the lives of people with disabilities. We experience every day too as a majority of our staff and Board of Directors members have a disability.  NICIL is a team of determined and caring individuals prepared to arm consumers with the tools and expectations necessary for them to guide their life now and in the future.

We serve Carroll, Jo Daviess, Lee, Ogle, and Whiteside counties.
